The Grace Foundation is supporting a journey of solidarity and protection to the Colombian Peace Community San José de Apartadó. San José called for international presence after the community was subject to attacks by paramilitary forces on December 29th 2017.

Martin Winiecki from the Institute for Global Peace Work writes: “Paramilitaries entered the community’s facilities in an attempt to assassinate their legal representative, German Graciano Posso. Though this attempt was impeded at the last minute, the situation in the community remains highly dangerous as their leaders receive daily death threats and the government – instead of protecting them – slanders the community.”

International presence is the biggest protection that can be given in situations of acute danger. Therefore two elders from the Tamera Peace Research Center in Portugal – Irma Fäthke and Iris Wacker – have traveled to Colombia to stand in support with the Peace Community. We recommend reading Martin Winieckis full article about the situation of San José here.

The Grace Foundations support for this journey follows the idea to establish a “Response Ability Fund” for quick, non-formal actions of solidarity and compassion. This fund shall serve the connection and support among the Global Campus communities to foster global awareness and connectedness.
